Harrison Ford was a carpenter before he became a Hollywood star. He was in the occupation for 10 years! His skill as a carpenter proved beneficial when he got a job of installing cabinets at director George Lucas's house. It earned him a role in the director's film American Graffiti. Thus began his acting career.
Ford did try acting while in college. He dropped out of Ripon College in Wisconsin and signed a contract, first with Columbia and later with Universal. Luck, however, seemed to desert him. His secondary roles in motion films and TV shows discouraged him so much that he gave up his hopes to become an actor and took up carpentry instead. American Graffiti was a comeback for Ford. But it was with his role of Han Solo in Star Wars (1977) that he rose to fame. His next major hit was as Indiana Jones in Raiders of the Lost Ark. Harrison Ford gave awrd winning performances in many Hollywood productions including Witness, Patriot Games, and The Fugitive. He was nominated 15 times and won 20 awards. Three cheers!
