The iconoclastic Jack Sparrow has played leading roles in many films. He also played another leading role, that of the frontman for a music band called The Kids, which was a tribute to Kiss. Before taking up his first acting assignment in Nightmare on Elm Street (1984), Johnny Depp was interested in building a music career for himself.
Depp, when he was a teen, dropped out of school to become a rock and roll star. He was the frontman for many a garage bands including The Kids. Popularity and success became a part of his life. To acquire fame, the band relocated to Los Angeles, and while they struggled, Depp decided to enter Hollywood. That was when he auditioned for Nightmare on Elm Street and bagged his debut role. Next came a small role in Oliver Stone's film Platoon. Following that, 21, Jump Street, a Fox production in which Depp was unwilling to star, established him as a successful actor and turned him into a teen idol. Till date, Depp has played the lead in major Hollywood movies such as Edward Scissorhands, Chocolat, Finding Neverland, Donny Brasco, and many more. Extraordinarily talented, the actor has never failed to surprise his audience with his choice of unusual roles. His performance remains unmatched, particularly in the colossal hit film series Pirates of the Caribbean. What happened to the rock star?...He has become one of the greatest actors of all times.
