Mila J is a native of Los Angeles, California. She is African American, Native-American, and Japanese. Her sister is singer Jhene and cousin is rapper Lil Fizz. Mila J began rapping at age 4. At the age of 7 she and her oldest sister appeared in the Prince video for 'Diamonds And Pearls'. She met Chris Stokes when she was just nine years old after her sister had appeared in an Immature video. He eventually made her a member of his now-defunct girl group, Dame Four. She has said "I went to school for fashion, but singing and dancing are in my heart, that's what I love and can't see myself doing anything else." Before joining Dame Four, she was a part of another now-defunct girl group called Gyrl along with her sister Miyoko. They released two singles entitled "Play Another Slow Jam" "Get Your Groove On" and appeared in the video for R&B group Immature's single "Constantly".
