In November 2002, Jackson was arrested by Raleigh, North Carolina police and charged with assaulting a security guard at a Carolina Hurricanes hockey game. Jackson registered a blood alcohol level of 0.14 when tested at the Wake County Security Centre. He posted a $1,000 bail and was released. He was later charged to enter an alcohol education program, a fine of $150 and complete 24 hours of community service.
Jackson divides his time between Los Angeles and Vancouver. Previously he lived in Wilmington, North Carolina, where the television program Dawson's Creek was filmed. He has dated Katie Holmes, Brittany Daniel, Julia Stiles, Rosario Dawson and is dating Diane Kruger, despite rumors that they broke up in March 2007. The couple were at the Cannes film festival and in various other events together in summer 2007.
