Comedian Matt Lucas as Little Britain

Little Britain, the hit British TV comedy has been accused of promoting preconception and hatred. A section of the  London School of Economics’ students have presented a study recently, which shows that the characters of the show, like  teenage mum Vicky Pollard and  proud gay Daffyd, are pigeonholes like characters resembling people’s dislike of others of a different class, sexuality, race or gender.

Researcher Deborah Finding has labeled Little Britain as “the comedy equivalent of junk food”. She made strong comments like, “It is clear that when `we’, the audience, are invited to laugh at ‘them’, the characters - we are laughing not only at the figures on screen but at entire groups of people whom they come to represent”.  Deborah feels the show does more harm than any good to the audiences. She has also stated that “Little Britain does far more to promote racism, sexism, homophobia, ageism and classicism than it does to satirize them - though it does do that from time to time”.

In her study, Finding also examined the characters of the show and found that their physical traits were used to project fears about homosexuals, the working class and minority groups. “Even Daffyd, the self-proclaimed only gay in the village, is a character who connects the idea of being homosexual with being ridiculous and therefore relies on mainstream fears about gayness, despite the fact that Daffyd is the creation of comedian Matt Lucas - who is himself gay”, she said.

Ruth LOrenzo

A phone line blunder almost cost Ruth LOrenzo her place on the X Factor. The sensual Spaniard singer was forced to fall in the bottom two category after it showed that her voting number had a digit missing. Lorenzo,25,is regarded as the show’s hot favourite. The X Facor is a television music talent show.

The show title refers to a factor in the contestant tha this an undefinable “something” that makes for star quality. The show primarily sees singing talent though appearance, personality, stage presence and dance routines are also an important element of the performances carried out by the contestants.Ruth was initially into opera but after being asked to sing for a band found rock and pop genres as her field of interest.

Ruth’s family and loved ones were literally furious of the erroneous numbers displayed beside her name. She had to go for a forced sing-off with rivals Girlband before going through to the next round. At one stage stage viewers were given the wrong number to vote for her – and many fans couldn’t get through. This meant a massive blunder on the show’s part to have forced a contestant’s play down and near exit from the much acclaimed talent show on television.

Ruth’s mum Eva said: “We tried for an hour and a quarter, but the lines were busy all the time.“Then we suddenly realised the number shown on TV was wrong.”

Quite surprisingly X Factor spokeswoman tried to undo their mistake by claiming that the interval was short and so the mistake was negligible from the show’s perspective. “During one short sequence, a single digit was missing from Ruth Lorenzo’s vote number…”, the spokeswoman said to play down the entire affair. She went further, “…The error would not have changed the outcome of the vote.”

Survivor, a popular reality TV show of America is down to 13 contestants now. Produced by Mark Burnett, the remaining 13 Survivors will be now put through more tension and testiness than before. From feasting on fruit and some great foodstuffs to overpowering a few deadly challenges, the last episode had it all to keep the audiences glued to their seats.

Fang’s hungry seven are still aching from the last Tribal Council and are looking for a little to get back with a bang. Luckily, they were able to spot an elephant behind the trees. Matty Whitmore, who was nominated as the leader of Fang last week, stated, “Seeing that elephant today really made me step out of the game for a second”. He also added with a smile, “It makes you appreciate the simplicity of life and the pure things and makes you appreciate Gabon.”

The biggest shock of the show was perhaps the vote out of Jacquie Berg. Kota was taken aback with the results when the two tribes met for the reward challenge. Thirteen are left and stresses are high. And that’s how the audiences like it! Do share what you feel about the show !!

It has been a real hectic and a very eventful week for Lauren Conrad, the popular star of star of MTV’s “The Hills”. With a high-profile show at Mercedes-Benz LA Fashion Week, she was busy shooting throughout the week. Right after the show got over it was time for chilling out with friends for the star. Last night she was spotted with a few friends over dinner.

The “Hills” starlet was found leaving the Katsuya restaurant in West Hollywood. Flashing in a wispy white button-up short sleeved shirt, black leggings, and a pair of studded black high-heeled boots, Lauren looked as attractive as ever.

Close circle of Lauren reported that she also has plans to tour some of the American college campuses and discuss with the students about dating abuse and violence after her “Hills” duties die down.

In an interview to the press Lauren Conrad stated, “I think it would be very beneficial, and I want to help people.  I’ve known people in really difficult situations, and as a friend, you never really know how to approach that person.  I was looking to get involved with a cause that really affected young women, and this affected me.”

Toni Braxton is gearing up to compete as a participant for the upcoming season of Dancing with the stars. She is under medication for her blood genated disease.Though she is yet to confirm her present status, last news were that she is recovering fast under rigorous fitness regime after medics controlled her heart issues a month ago. Braxton who is a stupendous performer seems stunning in her new and fresh look at the rehearsals. Alec Mazo with two unsuccessful seasons is surely keeping his fingers crossed to keep up with the dashing sonstress who has also been a legendary performer with a stunning history for her record breaking single ‘Unbreak my Heart’.

As the music Moguls wait eagerly for rays of hope, to hear good and great news to soothe their dry ears the time has come to satisfy them all (including jam lovers).

16th September seems to be a much awaited D-Day for Carla Bruni Sarkozy. The world would wait for French First lady to show her much publicized post marriage singing skills with the help of  an electrifying jam session with Music legends,Metallica and Sir Paul Mcartney. The program will be a much awaited affair as Metallica is to appear on BBC television for the first time in 12 years.

Scheduled to be broadcast on 16th  September it would feature the newly released albums of both Bruni-Sarkozy and Metallica. Bruni-Sarkozy would perform songs from her new album Comme si de rien n’etait (As if nothing happened) and Metallica is supposed to perform on their latest album, Death Magnetic.
As the news updates suggest, on the same night ex-Beatle McCartney will team up with record producer and bassist Martin “Youth” Glover under the name The Fireman.

This is regarded as a news that is already catching fire in the entertainment industry for the sole reason being the masters of music industry’s involvement and . So our team suggests all our viewers to catch their breath and hold it with gusto in order to fight the wait that might just seem to be an everlasting period until the d-day arrives in a jiffy.

The Tonight Show with Jay Leno will be without the charismatic host a year down the lane. This means that the fans will miss the wise cracks and funny man that they had been used to for almost 16 years. However they can still see their favorite talk show host for yet another year now since Leno is supposed to continue till May 2009. NBC Universal President and CEO Jeff Zucker said in an event in New York that his successor as announced earlier would be Conan O’Brien. However Zucker also said that they had requested Leno to continue his association with the network but in a different capacity.

The rumors of Leno leaving the flagship surfaced in 2005. This is when NBC struck a deal with the host that he would be leaving in May 2009 that would also mark his 17th year with the show. The Tonight Show is one of NBC’s longest running show the concept of which came from a lesser known version, Broadway Open House. Jay Leno took over as Talk Show host of the top rated late Night Show in 1992 from another legendary host Johnny Carson. From then on his career has been on the upswing with a successful acting career along with the popular show host. His wise cracking antics and sense of humor had made him as popular a name in show business as the celebrities that he invited to his show.

Courteney is to be back dong what she does best. Fans can now rest easy with their favorite returning to TV finally with the show Scrubs. Known to the world as the quirky Monica the character she played in Friends Courtney just like her other co-stars have not achieved the kind of success that they had tasted while being part of Friends.

With rumors of a reunion for a Friends movie being squashed and her own show Dirt being canceled fans were a little disappointed by the no show. However it seems that you can’t keep the actor down as she will be back for a three-episode guest spot in the eight season in the situational comedy Scrubs that is due to be aired on ABC. With Dr. Kelso’s retirement soon kicking in, she is to be the new chief of medicine of sacred Heart Hospital. The casting coup was envisioned as a move to give the show a much needed boost. No matter what, this is the kind of content that fans can look out for after a not so admirable performance as the editor Lucy Spiller in Dirt.
