Patrick Swayze died today at the age of 57. The dancer turned actor was popularly known for his physical grace and great looks. Swayze has acted in numerous films starting from romantic to action leads. His career reached its highest peak during the late 1980s and early ’90s. After a long battle with pancreatic cancer the 57 year old actor finally passed away.
One of the biggest achievements of Swayze was when he acted in his debut film, The Outsiders released in 1983. The film was directed by Francis Ford Coppola. The late actor played the role of a resort dance instructor in 1987’s Dirty Dancing sweeping off Jennifer Grey off her feet. The film instantly made him the most beloved leading men of his time. Dirty Dancing was an independent film, which became the biggest hit in box office. “She’s Like the Wind”, sung by Swayze in the film became enormously hit soon after the film’s release.
With his 1990’s hit, Ghost, Swayze established himself as a romantic icon of that time. The late actor played the role of a phantasm who tries to shelter his grief stricken beloved, Demi Moore from his killer. Right after the huge success of Ghost, two of his films: Road House and Point Break changed his image completely to an action flick.
Although his career took a down trodden way in the late ’90s and it continued to remained such for the next couple of years, Swayze was back to the big screen with a bang with the 2001 cult favorite Donnie Darko.
In March 2008, Swayze was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. While undergoing chemotherapy, the charming actor began working on a 12 hour shift from July last year on a TV series. The show, A&E crime drama The Beast, was premiered in January in which Swayze was seen playing the role of a world-weary undercover FBI agent. The show had about 2.4 million viewers.
