Taking into consideration the long history of Michael Jackson’s twisted legal history tale, it can be so rightly expected that his upcoming 50-date residency at the O2 Arena in London would not go off without the involvement of the lawyers. The latest possibility barrier appears serious, though.
As reported by the Reuters the music promotions company AllGood Entertainment is all set to sue Jackson. They have reportedly claimed that MJ signed a contract last year that will not allow him to perform live until July 2010.
The New Jersey based company also said that the company has signed an agreement in November with Jackson’s manager, Frank DiLeo, that committed the singer to performing in a Jackson family reunion tour. This tour was also supposed to include Janet Jackson and was scheduled to launch in July 2010. The agreement stated that Jackson will not be allowed to perform live until the reunion tour, an 18-month blackout that co-occurs with his planned solo shows in London.
AllGood have also been reported to have sent a cease-and-deesist letter to DiLeo and AEG Live, who are the promoter of the London shows. These shows have been tagged as a come back to the live performance of the troubled singer after 12 years off the touring stage. Jackson has also put forward a claim that he has never signed on for the family tour. But it has been reported that his manager had actually signed the agreement on his behalf.
A lawsuit will be filed by the company by the week’s end. Jackson has reportedly been rehearsing for the shows six hours a day, four days a week at a warehouse space near the Burbank airport in Los Angeles.
This isn’t surprising at all. At a memorabilia auction held on Saturday, Michael Jackson’s famous white glove was sold for $350,000. Another black jacket the King of Pop wore during a 1989 world tour fetched $225,000. Although the auction constituted of hundreds of rock ‘n’ roll items, including many not associated with the Pop King, yet Jackson memorabilia stole all the limelight.
The white glove of the late pop star was referred as “the Holy Grail of Michael Jackson” by Darren Julien, CEO of Julien’s Auctions, the organization that ran the auction. A pre-sale estimation for the master piece was about $50,000, which was surpassed by large counts. Hoffman Ma, who is a Hong Kong based business man, paid $420,000 as the final price along with the added commission (excluding taxes).
Jackson’s black, strap and zipper-laden jacket that he wore during the 1989 “Bad” tour was sold at $275,000 including commission. The bidding soared to $225,000, which is 20 times higher than what was estimated earlier.
Huge fans as well as dealers gathered at Times Square, New York’s Hard Rock Cafe for the auction. The primary attractions of the sale also included a car driven by Jackson, a guitar of David Bowie and memorabilia from the Beatles to Bo Diddley.
Jackson fans showed off that they are true fans of the King of Pop. Over hundreds of fans gathered at the outdoor area of the Roanoke Civic Center on Saturday night to celebrate the Halloween in King of Pop style.
Two hours, and all tickets for advance booking of ‘Michael Jackson’s This Is It’ were sold out. The film will be previewed in Los Angeles and the film already have started reigning over the box office even before its release.
