Superhero ‘Wolverine‘ cannot fight the swine flu that has killed about 149 people in Mexico. Therefore, he has to wait to enter the country.
Hollywood movie studio 20th Century Fox said on Monday that it is not releasing “X-Men Origins: Wolverine” in Mexico this weekend as scheduled. A spokesman for the studio, which is owned by News COrp, said that the release is probably going to be delayed by a couple of weeks. The reason is the outbreak of swine flu in Mexico due to which the country’s top movie-theaters have shut down dozens of cinemas throughout the nation’s capital. This has been done to limit the number of audience in order to stop the spread of the disease. “Wolverine” is set to release everywhere else in the world this weekend.
The premiere of the film was screened in Tempe city, Arizona (Mexico) which had turned into Hollywood with ‘X-Men’ fans and thousands of moviegoers gathering in the Tempe Marketplace to see the first showing of the film, and to welcome its hero, ‘Wolverine’ himself. Without a helmet and using one hand to steer and the other hand to wave, Hugh Jackman dazzled the crowed by coming in on a motorcycle. Taking the stage, Jackman, who plays Wolverine in the ‘X-Men’ sequel, thanked the crowd for showing up and being so enthusiastic in their support towards the movie. “It’s great to be here,” said Jackman. “You voted for it, and you won it, and I’m so proud to be here.“
Tempe Marketplace was hosting the premiere because it won a national contest whereby fans in Mexico competed by voting. The audience attending the premiere were boistrous, but good-natured. Among excited fans, there were many who had dressed up in Wolverine costumes, face paints and claws. They were out to see the film, and its biggest star.
