American Idol season 8 has been an exciting mix of bizzare themes and some fantastic performances. The contestants added color and glitz with their unique individualities-Adam Lambert´s iconic style, Megan Corkrey´s beautiful tattoo and Danny Gokey´s signature good-boy ´spec´-tacular look. Through a series of eliminations rounds that saw the contestants compete fiercely, the Top 8 have been selected. Now, who will be the idol? Any guesses…
Last week´s American Idol placed Megan Joy Corkrey, Alison Iraheta and Anoop Desai in the bottom three. One had to go, and anyone who had seen Megan perform knew who. Yes, it was Megan who just couldn´t have stayed. Her vocals were pathetic, and her tunes all messed up. Sure she has physical beauty, but she could have reached another level only if there was some beauty in her voice.
Already in grave danger once, Anoop too will have to go. He is enthusiastic on stage and has a huge fan following. But, neither is he competent, nor consistent in his vocals. After a superb ´Always on My Mind´, his ´Caught Up´ was simply horrible. Anoop may improve. But, the ´Ídol´ tag seems a little too difficult for him to achieve.
Where will Matt Giraud and Scott Mackintyre be in the subsequent American Idol shows? Both these singers have proven their talent. On iTune Downloads night, Scott´s delivery of ´Just the Way You Are´ surpassed his previous performances. Matt´s performance, however, was a blunder. He didn´t do well at all with ´You Found Me.´ Will Matt, like before, be able to cover up the mess with a top-notch performance? or will he sink deeper in his self-created blunder? The title is nowhere near for either of these two singers. As for the duration of their on-stage existence, it depends on their vocal deliverance AI Top 8in the coming weeks, the judges´ opinion, and most importantly, the voters.
Danny Gokey was quite flat with the Flatts. ´What Hurts the Most´ sounded thunderous. Also, it lacked originality. The judges were sympathetic. But, this one performance cannot steal Danny´s dynamic presence on the ´Idol´ stage, and his huge fan following. He sure is a strong contender, and will easily go up to the top 5. But Danny and ´Idol´? That is too much to ask for.
Allison´s vocal performance has been consistently good over the weeks. Yet, she was in the bottom three for two consecutive weeks. Bad vocals? Wrong song choice? or a poor fan base? It is the third, becasue there is no other reason why she should fall among the three worst performers. Her appearance was, no doubt, whacky. But, she sings very well. Last week, she was awesome with ¨Don´t Speak.¨ The 16-year-old Allison is one of the strongest female contestants and definitely deserves to end up in the top 3. The only danger she faces is a weak fan base.
With her wonderful voice, Lil Rounds is another very strong contestant. She is an excellent singer. But, she too, like some of the contestants, chose the wrong song (´I Surrender´) in the American Idol Top 9 show. In addition, Lil lacks the ability to produce a song right from her soul. That makes Lil Rounds absent from her own performances. But she will surely make it to the top 5 of this season.
Kris Allen was gorgeous last week with his rendition of ´Ain´t No Sunshine.´ He improves every week, and his astonishing coming to limelight from behind the scenes has led him to the top 3 already. That awesome voice, and that pretty charm have made the boy one of the most-loved Idol of season 8. If anyone can beat the reigning star of American Idol, its Kris Allen.
On the top, till now, is the vocally versatile Adam Lambert. Amidst all that ´He is gay’ controversy, Adam has managed to keep his no.1 position intact for all the right reasons. His dynamically creative voice go well with his funky style, something that has become iconic. He has both a massive fan base as well as unmatched talent. With each powerhouse performance (´Ring of Fire´, ´Tracks of My Tears´, ´Play That Funky Music´), Adam has made it clear that he holds the first place in American Idol Season 8 contest.
So, the American Idol title this season will go to….Adam Lambert. Or will it be Kris Allen? Those who have been following the show know that Adam is the champ. But, they also know that Kris is an equally strong contender. Adam fans have something to worry about. Those who love Kris, keep your fingers crossed.
