Did that shock you? Well…there is no reason to be shocked. Golden Globe winner Jon Hamm, who starred in ´Mad Men´, will be playing defense attorney Jake Ehrlich in the Allen Ginsberg´s forthcoming film ´Howl´.

The film captures the 1957 obscenity trial of Ginsberg that followed the publication of his epic poem ¨Howl¨ in 1956, and was based on phrases in the poem. The charges were actually against the poem´s publisher, City Lights Books. Ehrlich represented the publisher in court, and eventually, they won the trial. The win was a big support to the free speech movement.

Ginsberg´s film stars James Franco as the poet himself. Others included in the cast are Mary-Louise Parker, Jeff Daniels, David Strathairn, Treat Williams, Bob Balaban and Alessandro Nivola. Production of the film is currently taking place in New York. The movie will be released in 2010.

Jon Hamm recently completed his guest performance in ¨30 Rock¨ and was on screen as part of the cast of ¨The Day the Earth Stood Still.¨
