The launch of ´Battlestar Galactica´ prequel ´Caprica´ is scheduled for next year. But the uncut version of the pilot of this new series is to be available on DVDs today. Inspired by the magnanimous sale of ´Battlestar Galactica´ DVDs, Universal is releasing the 90-minute unrated premiere of ´Caprica´ in stores today.

´Caprica´ recalls a dark world that existed 58 years before the nuclear events that set off the sleek sci-fi TV series ´Battlestar Galactica.´ Only, it is greyer and more sinister. At the center of the world is the outstanding and wealthy scientist Daniel Graystone (Eric Stoltz) who lives on the planet Caprica. He has created a ¨holoband¨, which enables people to visit virtual worlds, and is trying to develop a cybernetic fighting machine for an artificial intelligence project.

It´s a most surprising revelation for Graystone when he discovers that his teenage daughter, a computer expert, has earned her greatest achievement, and a marvellous one: a complete virtual copy of herself including her memories. “She took a search engine and turned it into a way to cheat death,” says Graystone. He wants to download the virtual copy- a prototype of the Cylon centurion. But for that, the scientist needs Joseph Adama (Esai Morales), a lawyer who can help him steal a part of technology for creating a fully functional artificial brain.

´Battlestar´ fans will find one character familiar- Bill Adama (Sina Najafi), who is already resentful at the age of 11. Writer, and executive producer Ronald D.Moore has used classics as the source to create the Cylons, an event in which the Adama family has a more basic role than Bill ever knew. Monotheists, ´Soldiers of the One´, are the terrorists and pagans are the mainstream people. Co-starring, as a nun who can turn out dangerous, is Polly Walker. ´Caprica´ is a metaphoric presentation of the dangerous consequences of religious fanaticism.

Here we are, back in the doomed world of ´Battlestar´ with fear, frustration, anguish, creepy scenes, and a menacing atmosphere. Do check the trailer.
