Robin Williams’ fans will be relieved to know that their favorite comedian will be fully recovering post surgery. The 57-year old actor had to undergo the heart surgery after he suffered from shortness of breath in the middle of his 80-date Weapons of Self Destruction tour that started in September.
The operation took place at the Cleveland Clinic on March 13. There were three problems with Williams’ heart that needed fixing: the aortic valve had to be replaced, his mitral valve had to be repaired, and the irregular heart beat had to be corrected. One of Williams’ doctors, Doctor Marc Gillinov, said after the surgery “His heart is strong and he will have normal heart function in the coming weeks with no limitations on what he’ll be able to do.” He also stated that “A couple of hours after surgery, he was entertaining the medical team and making us all laugh.” Williams reportedly joked after the operation saying he now had “some great new material”.
Williams thanked the surgical team for their “kindness and dedication”, .and said that he was grateful to his fans for their love, concern, and support. The Weapons of Self Destruction tour, which was postponed in March due to the surgery, has been rescheduled to begin in autumn this year.
