Sean Penn is such an actor who does not shy away from placing his ideas in front of the world. Sean had been vocal about anti-gay people, at this year’s Academy Awards while he gave his thanking speech. Sean has played a Gay politician in his recent Oscar winning film, ‘Milk’. Now Penn has taken up the cause for the thrid gender yet again.
Penn lashed out at the anti-gay demonstrators who lined the streets outside the Academy Awards on Sunday (22Feb09) to protest against same-sex marriage. He could not but stop himself from calling out to the ones who hated gays and homosexuals. He said that they needed to look at themselves so that their grandchildren looked up at them in the future.
He was asked at the Awards ceremony, how he felt about the protesters and Sean responded well : “I’d tell them to turn in their hate card and find their better self. it’s very sad in a way, because it’s a demonstration of such emotional cowardice, to be so afraid of extending the same rights to your fellow man as you would want for yourself.”
Penn had in the past made use of the Oscar podium by talking and criticising of Bush administration’s WMD quest in Iraq. Sean had criticised and had been the only actor in History to publicly speak up against something and specially a ruling Government.
Penn plays the role of Harvey Milk who became the first openly gay man to be elected to public office in California as a member of the San Francisco Board of Supervisors. As always Penn’s role has been the talk of the critics’ town.
