Joaquin Phoenix

Oscar winning Joaquin Phoenix who recently announced his departure from the film world has a desire to be remembered by all as a ace musical star. The actor reportedly had a burning desire to become a successful musician or a great instrumentalist which never really materialised in his career span. But Phoenix turned into a rapper and hopes his movie career will become insignificant as he becomes the new Eminem.

Joaquin said : “I’l Be Remembered for My Music, Not Acting”

Joaquin has appeared dishevelled and a bit off in his recent public appearances and many a times incoherent. The ‘Walk The Line’ star recently announced his plans to quit acting and concentrate on making music. Joaquin has been criticised in certain quarters, who feel, that his current decision is just a hoax. However Phoenix insists that he is dead serious about his decision of never ever appearing before the cameras again.

James Gray, Joaquin Phoenix’s most recent movie director, ruefully said that he had played a big part in diverting Joaquin’s mind from films to music. ‘Two Lovers’ director James Gray feels that he had played sections of hip hop which caught fast with Joaquin. He said : “I feel very bad about it… like I’m the guy who destroyed Joaquin Phoenix. I said to him, ‘Is it my fault?’ He said, ‘It’s not. Forget it.’ I still feel bad.”

Phoenix tells that his rap career “has been brewing for a long time” and he has flirted with the idea of quitting acting. Phoenix has also revealed that he tried to play guitar and learnt it quite well while he was shooting for his role in Johnny Cash biopic ‘Walk The Line’. He insists that learning to play the guitar for ‘Walk The Line’ was the catalyst needed for him to give up his movie career. He decided that it would be his last film whatsoever.

Phoenix however explains, “I’ve always loved music and never really played anything, and, after Walk The Line, I kind of learned to play guitar and having that sense of performing, that certainly opened the door for me formusic. I think now I would just like the music to speak for itself. I don-t think we’ll ever get to the reason, ‘Oh, that’s why he quit and this is why he’s doing this.’ I don’t fully understand it myself. I’ve always followed my heart and felt what was true at the time and that’s what I’m doing now.”

“I’m not out to sell records. I’m experiencing something and it’s what I feel. I feel like everything in my life is leading up to this and suddenly acting doesn’t seem like that’s a big part of what was important in my life. “I imagine, when I look back on my life, acting will be just a very small portion of something that I did, and I think music will be the dominant theme in my life”. Bearded Phoenix admits he was taken aback by the fuss his decision to quit acting caused “I didn’t know that anyone was gonna care. I felt that it was an obligation to tell my fans what I was doing, moving inanother direction”.
