Martin Scorsese the legendary American film director, writer, producer, actor and film historian
and the president of the film Foundation has chosen Celina Murgo, an Argentinian
filmmaker to showcase her talent, to premiere her second feature “A Week Alone”
at the Times BFI 52nd London Film Festival in October.
Scorsese has chosen Murgo because he felt she is an exceptional talent and “a real filmmaker”.
Celina Murgo has been recently involved as a part of the Rolex Mentor & Protege Arts Initiative
, masterminded by “Raging Bull” director. She had recently spent several weeks working under “The Color of Money” director,Scorsese. She was working in his new project,on the sets of his upcoming film,’Shutter Island,’under the Initiative project that had pulled in several artistic masters with young talent.Murgo’s “A Week Alone” will be screened with a ‘Martin Scorsese presents’ disclaimer. The 35 year old Argentinian filmmaker is overwhelmed with her chance of a lifetime. She said it was”a huge privilege to be able to observe
and learn in close-up from a master craftsman of the cinema”.A Week Alone is a film of the modern era where the new Argentinian bourgeoisie is showcased and the portrayal is seen through children’s eyes.
The film stars a group of actors aged seven to fourteen.
Scorsese talked about Celina Murgo’s potential and the reason, why he supported Murgo’s cause for such
a big event which meant a huge future possibility
for an upcoming talent like Celina.”She has an eye, she has a sense of character and place and how they interact.
What I was looking for [as a mentor] was an exchange, a conversation. That’s what I found with Celina.”
